Hope and Healing International is headquartered in Stouffville, Ontario, and is an accredited member of the Canadian Centre for Christian Charities. Their team is made up of doctors, teachers, health workers, community advocates, and funding partners who are passionate about giving hope and healing to children and families trapped in poverty with disability.
What started as Christian Blind Mission (cbm) over 100 years ago has grown into the Hope and Healing International ministry that we know today. The new ministry name was introduced in 2019 to better convey their expanded reach and firm belief that following Jesus means caring for forgotten people trapped in poverty by disability. Hope and Healing International goes to the world’s poorest places to work with people living in the most difficult circumstances to help ensure that the most vulnerable among us are not left behind.
Where It All Started
More than 100 years ago, German missionary pastor and founder of Christian Blind Mission, Ernst Christoffel, saw children with disabilities begging on the streets in Turkey. He couldn’t ignore their desperation and so he welcomed them into his home. He gave hope and healing to the forgotten children because the love of Christ left him no choice.
Pastor Christoffel opened a home and school for children with disabilities in Anatolia in 1908, which was Hope and Healing International’s first project. The ministry has grown to care for more than 45 million of the world’s poorest children and families each year in 59 different countries.
